Roadmap

This document outlines the planned development path for Wagtail LMS.

Current Status: v0.10.1

The current release includes full H5P and SCORM lesson page support, xAPI tracking, downstream extensibility, and all prior SCORM infrastructure.

Completed in v0.10.x:

✅ Downstream Integration Extension Points

  • WAGTAIL_LMS_SCORM_PACKAGE_VIEWSET_CLASS, WAGTAIL_LMS_H5P_ACTIVITY_VIEWSET_CLASS, WAGTAIL_LMS_H5P_SNIPPET_VIEWSET_CLASS — swap admin viewsets without monkey-patching
  • WAGTAIL_LMS_CHECK_LESSON_ACCESS — pluggable enrollment gate callable for H5PLessonPage.serve()
  • WAGTAIL_LMS_REGISTER_DJANGO_ADMIN, WAGTAIL_LMS_SCORM_ADMIN_CLASS, WAGTAIL_LMS_H5P_ADMIN_CLASS — control Django admin registration
  • H5PLessonPage.parent_page_types = None — CoursePage subclasses can host lessons without patching

  • H5PActivity Wagtail snippet — upload .h5p packages, auto-extract, parse metadata
  • H5PLessonPage — long-scroll layout with StreamField body (RichText + H5PActivityBlock)
  • H5PAttempt, H5PXAPIStatement, H5PContentUserData — progress, audit log, resume state
  • xAPI ingestion endpoint with verb → attempt field mapping
  • H5P resume/progress state endpoint (H5P content-user-data protocol)
  • Secure H5P asset serving via ServeH5PContentView
  • h5p-standalone v3.8.0 vendored; h5p-lesson.js with lazy loading and xAPI dispatch

✅ Lesson and Course Completion Logic

  • H5P lesson completes when all H5P activities in it reach completion_status="completed"
  • SCORM lesson completes when SCORMAttempt.completion_status is "completed" or "passed"
  • Course completes when all H5P and SCORM lessons are done; informational lessons do not gate completion

Previously completed:

✅ Framework-Agnostic Templates — BEM-style .lms-* classes, minimal default CSS

Version 0.11.0 — SCORMLessonPage + Model Renames (in progress)

Goal: Clean separation of SCORM and H5P content at the lesson level

  • [x] Introduce SCORMLessonPage — a dedicated Wagtail Page child of CoursePage for SCORM delivery
  • [x] Rename LessonPage → H5PLessonPage and LessonCompletion → H5PLessonCompletion
  • [x] Remove CoursePage.scorm_package FK — SCORM packages now belong to SCORMLessonPage
  • [x] SCORM player URL changed from player/<course_id>/ to scorm-lesson/<lesson_id>/play/
  • [x] Course completion now checks both H5P lesson completions and SCORM attempt statuses
  • [x] Data migration creates a SCORMLessonPage child for existing courses that had a scorm_package
  • [x] System check W002 added to warn when a CoursePage subclass omits SCORMLessonPage from subpage_types
